MALMÖ – COPENHAGEN

We started our trip Thursday night in our hometown, Gothenburg. From here we went straight with our car to Lund. Lund is an adorable little Town. If you’re ever coming to Sweden you should definitely go there. The Town is quite small but really cozy and since it has its own university there are lots of students here.

The morning after we went straight to Malmö and had some brunch at Systrar och bröder. A really nice little café with a Lovely breakfast buffet and delicious raw food snacks. Next step was to drive over the bridge from Malmö to Copenhagen. It took us only about 10 minutes, and even though it was 10 minutes of panic (since we are both scared of heights) it’s a really nice way to travel and it takes you straight to Copenhagen. Even though Copenhagen isn’t very far from Malmö, you instantly feel a difference. There are much more people and there isn’t a very distinct line between the outside and the inside. People are sitting more outside and the Coffey shops are kind of opened up. People are smoking inside as well. The first day we went shopping at Ströget. Even though most of the stores are the same as in Sweden some of them are much nicer. For example H&M, the H&M in Copenhagen is so freaking big. Much bigger than the one in Stockholm. I don’t know how many times we had to call each other to know where we were! Haha

Lunch break had to be at Joe and the juice. The juices and smoothies there are so nice and healthy. I can really recommend the Place!

After some more shopping we stopped at Hard Rock and drank our new favorite drink, the electric blues. Strong as fuck, but you can never tell! Drink two of those and your preparty is perfect! Haha However, we were a bit disappointed in Hard Rock, Copenhagen, at least the bar. It felt like we were seated in a shop and I think they played more pop than rock actually..

We decided that we wanted to eat something a bit more Danish for dinner and went to Dubliner for open faced danish sandwiches (smörebröd) with plaice (rödspätta). I always make sure to eat one of those whenever I’m in Denmark, I absolutely love ‘em! What I love about places like the Dubliners is the fellowship. You ALWAYS make new friends there, it’s impossible not to. This time we met Michael, Scott, Gunder? and Laerke from Norway, Ireland, Iceland and Denmark. Haha it’s kind of amazing that all of them were from different countries.

And yes, I must tell how shitty my Danish is! I didn’t understand a word, so the Danish people started to talk English to me.. Really embarrassing, however it gave us some funny moments! Haha Later during the night an Irish band started to play and people started to dance, we never got anywhere else than the Dubliners that night.

Next day we ate an American breakfast at a place which name I can’t remember.. However it was really good and located close to the DGI byen. DGI byen is really a hotel but they also have a bath and swimming area to which we went. Since we’d slept in the car and only been able to wash us at gas stations along the way, it felt pretty good to get a real shower. We were also able to straighten our hair – the biggest problem with sleeping in the car if you ask me! I can survive perfectly fine without anything but that.. Haha! Even though it wasn’t really the purpose we actually enjoyed the swimming pool as well.

After some swimming, we went to Christiania. A so called “freetown” with it’s own set of rules, completely independent of the Danish government. A quite nice and unique experience I think everyone should get!

Before going back to Sweden we went back to Ströget to eat lunch at Bar Burrito at skindergade 36. It was really hard to find and I don’t know for how long we walked around until we got it right – but man it was worth it! Absolutely amazing Mexican food. I’ve missed it every single day since I got home!

The last night we spent in Malmö. It started at amazing Lilla torget. A small square with lots of restaurants and people. Even though the weather was cold we were able to sit outside below the warming lamps in only dresses. We drank some more electric blues, ofcourse! And ate some burger and risotto with seafood.

Since we didn’t know the town very well we decided to ask the waiter were to go next. Grand he said, and grand it was. And omg how grateful I am that we went there! A really unique nightclub/restaurant with live music and theaterperformances. Really nice people as well. We fell in love with one of the bands called Roadkill and rainbow. You can listen to them at soundcloud, do that! On our way back to town, we come across the coolest guys ever who offered some afterglow. And ofcourse we couldn’t say no to Malin, Johanna, Pontus, Oscar och Vincent!

..So happy to have made this trip and met all this new people! Can’t wait to do it again! Any ideas of where to go next?

(Excuse my bad English and the time it’s taken us to start writing! Hope you enjoyed this post and that it can guide you to some awesome places!!)
